Watergate Bay summer drive-in cinema 2021
The Wavelength Drive-in Cinema is back for the second year running. Bringing you a summer of family favourites, cult classics and iconic surf flicks overlooking Watergate Bay.
The drive-in cinema took a break in 2022, but plans are in place for something more permanent. Sign up to the Wavelength mailing list to keep up to date.
Highlights of 2021
Our friends at Wavelength surf magazine hosted the ultimate drive-in cinema season, with an even larger LED screen every weekend from Friday 16 July until Sunday 5 September 2021.
Re-live the terrifying Boneyard surf session and hilarious hunt for the silver surfer in 1995 surf and rave romp Blue Juice. Hear live shanties from the real-life Fisherman’s Friends before watching the eponymous 2019 film that tells their story. Watch the iconic drive-in scenes in the midst of your own stunning drive-in scene with Grease.
Spend afternoons with the family watching Pirates of the Caribbean, The Goonies and Surf's Up to name just a few. Then, later on in the bill, the critically acclaimed big wave documentary Riding Giants and biographical epic Chasing Mavericks, before rounding things out on the final weekend with the Wavelength Surf Film Fest, featuring a hand-picked selection of surfing shorts. Find the full line-up here.
All from the comfort of your car (with your own surround sound coming directly from your car stereo, via a special event-specific FM frequency), on a giant screen with the idyllic backdrop of twilight over the Atlantic ocean below.
